Mounties overturn Spartan rivals

May 23, 2012
WHITEFIELD — It was a high fielding game between Berlin and the Spartan hosts on Wednesday with the visitors in red chipping away with a run almost every inning to win 7-0.

Working hard on the mound was Ethan Call and Ben Rexford for WMRHS as well as Trevor Leborgne for BHS. In a high swinging game Berlin threw two strikeouts while White Mountains tossed two K's and two walks.

In the top of first Zack Bacon drew in a walk, stole second, was pushed to third by a ground out from Ryan Richard and came home on a line drive single from Curtis Arsenault. Two groundouts on plays to Andrew St. Cyr at first would leave Arsenault stranded on third.

White Mountains got the bats moving in the bottom of the second starting with Ethan Call beating feet to earn a single. One out later Nick Barker had a base hit grounder to left field followed by a Rexford single to load the bases. The Spartan surge was cut short, however, as Richard manufactured a double play catching a line drive as well as getting the force out at third.

In the top of the second on one out Mike Lemoine sent a line drive single to centerfield. Lemoine was pushed to second by a Jeremiah Pinette ground out and sent to third on a Brad Boucher line drive. Lemoine then stole home on the pitch before the Regional could catch the third out, a fly to Tyler Mcleod. In the bottom of the second Ben Brodeur lined a single to left field, but was stranded at second.

In the top of the third Mcleod would snag all three outs in a row from center field. Oddly enough White Mountains had the same thing happen to them in the bottom of third with two flies caught by Pinette in right field.

In the bottom of the fourth Chris Fortin led off with a single on the fifth pitch, stole his way to third and stole home on a Connor Jewett base hit. White Mountains was able to end the inning with Jewett left on third with three quick outs. In the bottom of the fourth two groundouts and a line drive to Jewett put a quick end to the inning.

In the top of the fifth Bacon lead of with a line drive single and stole second, but seated there for two pop flies to Rexford in left field. Leborgne then hit a line drive to centerfield to bring Bacon home. Three groundouts in the bottom of the fifth ended the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth Jewett led off with a base hit, stole second, sacrificed to third by Mike Lemoine and scored on a pass ball. Call led off the bottom of the sixth with a base hit, was pushed to second on two outs and was left stranded.

In the top of the seventh on one out walk Richard drew in a walk and sent home on an Arsenault triple. Arsenault himself ended up scoring on a Leborgne ground out. In the bottom of the seventh on two outs Brodeur survived seven pitches before cracking a double to left field. On the Spartans final chance to score Berlin collected a ground out to end the game.
