April 26, 2012OSSIPEE — There is a lot of business activity happening in Ossipee right now, with some businesses reporting success in the beginning months since they opened, new ones just opening up, and still others opening soon as they wrap up final work to get their permits approved.
At the Hitching Post building on Route 16B in Center Ossipee – a building gutted by fire a few years ago – is now home to beauty and flowers. Ole Hitching Post Beauty and Ole Hitching Post Floral Design have been open for business for a few months with Suzanne Murphy and Ashley Neely prepared to welcome customers into the beauty salon and Pam Collins ready to design and deliver the perfect floral arrangements for your occasion. Murphy said that in addition to the beautifully renovated building being open for business, it has also become a gathering place for locals to gather for a cup of coffee and share the town news.
The beauty shop welcomes customers for haircuts and styling as well as manicures and pedicures, opening each day at 9:30 a.m. Understanding that it's tough for working people to get to the salon during the day, Murphy keeps longer hours, often until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The shop is closed on Sundays. Salon services can be scheduled by appointment but Murphy also eagerly welcomes walk-in customers without appointment. The number to reach the salon is 539-6006.
With wedding and prom season approaching, the shop is becoming a one-stop shop for special occasion needs. In addition to getting customers all styled up for the big occasion and providing the flowers, the shop is now offering tuxedo rental for the gentlemen, a service that Murphy said doesn't already exist in Ossipee and makes it very convenient for folks not wanting to make several trips out of town to rent the formalwear.
Collins's flower shop is stocked with flower arrangements, plants, and balloons that customers can buy right out of the cooler or off the shelf. She is also ready to make up the perfect arrangement for the customer and can assist them with shipping flowers just about anywhere in the country. She is also gearing up for the busy wedding and prom season, ready to meet with couples to create the perfect arrangements, bouquets, and corsages for the big occasions. The flower shop hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon and can be reached at 539-6006.
Top Cat Car Wash
The final equipment is being installed and tests being run in anticipation of Top Cat Car Wash on Route 16 in Ossipee Corner holding its grand opening on May 19. According to the business owners, Greg and Alice Sabol, the vacuums are up and running and can be used by customers now. "We are just putting the finishing touches on and making sure all the bugs are worked out and then the whole thing will be open for business," said Greg. Raffle tickets are being sold to benefit the Ossipee Rotary. The $5 raffle ticket will buy the purchaser a chance to win a $50 gift card as well as a chance to be the first customer through the car wash at the grand opening. Raffle tickets can be purchased at Exit Realty and at Resale Connection, which is located next to the car wash.
The former Windsong Motel will, according to the town's zoning officer, soon be open for business. The owners have done extensive renovations to the 22-guest room building after purchasing the motel at foreclosure auction.
Meadow Pond Animal Hospital
The "Now Open" sign now hangs outside at Meadow Pond Animal Hospital on Route 16 in West Ossipee. After months of renovation that transformed the building from a restaurant into an animal hospital, veterinarians Kelly Keenan and Linden North are ready to welcome cats and dogs to their state-of-the-art facility. This office is actually a satellite office of their main business in Moultonborough. Keenan and North said that many of their customers at the Moultonborough location will now find it more convenient as they live closer to the West Ossipee location. In addition to regular check-ups and preventative care, the office offers a variety of high tech services, including blood machines and x-ray machines to help diagnosis pets' health problems right on site. There are two exam rooms as well as a surgery room. Having all of these services under one roof is convenient for pet owners so "we don't have to send them someplace else" said North. The hospital will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays 8 a.m. to noon. The hospital can be reached at 301-1616.
Timberland Power Sports
If there is a part or accessory for your truck, SUV, motorcycle, ATV, or snowmobile that you are looking for, AJ Battles wants his business, Timberland Power Sports, to be the go-to place. Opened in February at the Hodson Farm Building on Route 16 in Ossipee with his partner Heather Wrigley, Battles' shop is filled with apparel and new and used accessories that can be purchased right off the shelf but, he said, he also is a representative for about 200 different lines of accessories and can help you find exactly what you need, or all those extra accessories and apparel that you didn't even know you needed until you saw it. The business started as an internet-based one, operating from their home, with the inventory taking over their space so they decided to open a storefront to welcome customers. In addition to the store, the pair has been attending trade shows to display their wares and are planning events to be held at the store in the near future. The store hours are Wednesday-Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As the owners continue to work towards getting the final approvals from the town's planning board and state agencies, the construction of a 250-seat restaurant and an 11,000 square foot hardware store has been preliminarily approved and will be located adjacent to the existing store on Route 16 in Ossipee Corner.
