Ormond named new superintendent of SAU2

April 25, 2012
MEREDITH — Mary Ellen Ormond has been announced as the new superintendent of SAU 2.

Last week, Lisa Merrill, Chair of the SAU school board, which is comprised of the Inter-Lakes and Ashland School Districts, announced in a statement to the district that Ormond was chosen to succeed Superintendent Phil McCormack, who will be retiring on June 30.

"The decision to elect Ms. Ormond came after the completion of a rigorous interview process, with two finalists, which culminated in a unanimous vote of the Board last Friday, April 6, 2012," the statement read. "Throughout the process, those who met with Ms. Ormond were impressed with her knowledge, background, and ability to connect with teachers, staff and community members."

The announcement ends the process that began when McCormack announced his retirement in January after serving as superintendent for eight years. The district utilized the services of the New Hampshire School Boards Association to build a pool of candidates. It was announced in early April that the pool had been narrowed down to Ormond and Marie Ross, superintendent the Newfound Regional School District.

According to a statement from the district, Ormond currently serves as Associate Superintendent for the Hudson School District, and also served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for that district. She previously worked in the Merrimack School District, including heading the special education department for two years. Ormond started her teaching career in Derry as a Special Education teacher.

Ormond received her undergraduate degree in Special Education from Keene State College in 1983. She has a Master's of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Notre Dame College in Manchester. In 2007, she received her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Plymouth State University.

Ormond will assume the position of superintendent on July 1.
