WEST OSSIPEE — Fire precinct commissioners here have announced the appointment of Carl Huddleston as the precinct's new fire chief. Huddleston, a Tamworth resident, works full-time for Highway Enforcement Division of NH State Police and will serve as the precinct's part-time chief.

Huddleston has been working in the acting chief role since March 2011 and was hired to the part-time chief position at the Jan. 17 meeting. According to an e-mail received from the precinct commissioners, the fire chief job posting was posted at the fire station in accordance with the precinct's personnel policy. The e-mail goes on to state that Huddleston's qualifications exceeded the requirements of the position so the commissioner's found no need to advertise the position to the general public.

As previously reported, the annual fire chief salary is expected to be $19,500 for "administrative" responsibilities. Huddleston will also be paid an additional hourly wage for his responses to emergency calls.

The chief's salary and the entire 2012 budget will be discussed and voted on at the precinct's annual meeting Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. at the Jewell Hill Fire Station.
