McCormack announces retirement plans

January 18, 2012
MEREDITH — The Superintendent of SAU 2 has announced he will retire.

Superintendent Phil McCormack has announced he will retire at the end of the school year. The announcement was made by the Inter-Lakes School Board during Tuesday's meeting.

"It's one of those things you agonize over," McCormack said. "I'm very proud and pleased with what's going on in both districts."

McCormack has worked in the Inter-Lakes School District for the past eight years. He has been in education for 40 years, starting out as the teaching principal for a grades one through eight elementary school in Wentworth.

"I didn't attempt to get an administrative position — it just happened," McCormack said.

McCormack, a resident of Holderness, said he does not have any immediate plans after he retires.

The Board will soon begin the search process for a new superintendent. Board Chair Richard Hanson said meetings will be taking place between the Inter-Lakes and Ashland School Boards of SAU 2 to discuss McCormack's retirement.

"He's been very gracious, and he's been working with us to institute the process," Hanson said.
