REGION— The property tax rates for 2011 were set in Ossipee, Freedom, and Tamworth this week with little change over last year's rates.

Ossipee's base tax rate is up 80 cents or 5.3 percent from $14.99 to $15.79. Though the town portion of the tax rate went down, there was a $1.34 increase in the Governor Wentworth Regional School District tax. Taxpayers then add the precinct tax on which pays for street lighting and the fire department in their precinct. The grand total for Center Ossipee is $16.98; Ossipee Corner $17.80; and West Ossipee $18.60.

Freedom's property tax rate is up 59 cents or 5.4 percent from $10.90 to $11.49 per $1,000 assessed valuation.

Tamworth's property tax rate is up 82 cents or 4.6 percent from $17.75 to $18.57. While the town tax rate there stayed the same, school and county tax increased.

As reported last week, Effingham, had a $3.11 increase (19.4 percent), with the rate jumping from $16.05 to $19.16 that is likely to have taxpayers there feeling the pinch.
