August 31, 2011
BARNSTEAD — On Tuesday, Aug. 23, the Barnstead School Board met and introduced Misty Low as the new vice principal.

"I'm thrilled to be here," Low said. "This is my first full fledged administrative opportunity."

Principal Tim Rice spoke very highly of Low.

"We had a short list of about eight or nine people. Misty was right on the top of that list," Rice said. "We have definitely found a keeper."

The board also introduced Donna Clairmont as the new business administrator.

The first day of school at Barnstead Elementary School is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 7, and an open house will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

"We are excited about the opening of school," Chair Diane Beijer said.

The board approved a second and final reading of the homework policy.

Staff orientation was scheduled for Aug. 31 between 8 and 8:30 a.m.

Kim Hartford has been reassigned as the interim technology coordinator per Superintendent Dr. William Compton's recommendation.

Compton informed the board that he has sent a letter to make a commitment to join the Executive Development Program on the National Center of Education.

The superintendent said that inclusion in this program will help develop school leaders and that it is a great professional development opportunity. According to Compton, a total of 27 classroom days will be needed.

Anna Williams, the Director of Pupil Service, reported that that a pair of foster students will be coming into the school system, which will have a heavy cost to BES.

Principal Tim Rice presented the board with the results of a survey that was completed last year by the students about the food service at BES.

Many students requested that more vegetables be served and that salad be provided as a lunch option more often.

The board was asked to look into getting rid of the Styrofoam trays in the cafeteria at the school.

The board approved several new hires, a pair of long-term substitutes, a resignation; Melissa Nadeau, and a leave of absence.

The next scheduled Barnstead School Meeting is on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Barnstead Elementary School library.
