Celebrate in Barnstead on Saturday
August 23, 2011BARNSTEAD — Old Home Day will in Barnstead will kick off this Saturday with a 5K road race at 9 a.m., with registration being held from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
The majority of the events for Barnstead Old Home Day will take place at the Barnstead Parade Grounds unless otherwise noted.
Breakfast, served by Barnstead Fire-Rescue, will be served at the fire station from 8 to 10 a.m., and registration for the horseshoe tournament will begin at 10 a.m., with the tournament starting at 11 a.m.
An art and photography exhibit will be open at 11 a.m., and Double Vision will be performing Pantomonium at 11:30 a.m.
At 12:30 p.m., the rock climbing wall, kids' games and the jail house will open, and a cake walk and a disc golf demonstration will be held at 1:30 p.m.
A blueberry baking contest will start at 2:30 p.m., and a classic vehicle show will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at 306 Parade Road across the street from the Parade Fire Station.
At 3:30 p.m., the Barnstead Old Home Day Cake will be presented and Barnstead Citizen of the Year will be announced.
A talent show will start at 4 p.m., and a chicken barbeque dinner will be served up by the Suncook Valley Sno-Riders at the Parade Fire Station until 6:30 p.m.
Karaoke will start at 4:30 p.m., a silent auction will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and a live auction will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with both auctions being held at the Parade Fire Station.
The proceeds from the auction will go towards next year's old home day festivities.
Russ Abbott of the Atlantic Auction Company is the auctioneer for the live auction.
Items included in this years auction include: an 18-inch Sanyo HD television, gift certificates to local merchants and businesses, a set of wireless head phones, locally embroidered sweatshirts, hand quilt items, locally made wooden pegged racks and maple sugar from a Barnstead sugar house.
A list of the items scheduled for the live and silent auction will be available at the raffle and t-shirt booth on the Parade Grounds and available at the bidder registration table at the fire station.
At 6:20 p.m., the raffle drawing and the classic vehicle show awards will be handed out.
The evening will close with "Decades" performing at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks at 8:30 p.m.
