Contraband at State Prison

July 27, 2011
BERLIN—Several incidents of contraband at the Northern Correctional Facility (NCF) in Berlin occurred over the past month.

On June 29 state police arrested Alisha Morgan, age 30, 296 New Hampton Road, Franklin, and Melissa Brewster-Lurvey, age 29, 99 Hurricane Road, OF Belmont. Both women are charged with class D felony delivery of articles to prisoners. The items attempted have not been identified and are pending analysis by state police.

Also, a man already an inmate was charged for an incident occurring on July 12. Axel Cancel, age 30, and an address of East Milan Road, Berlin, the facility, has a probable cause hearing on August 20.

According to State Police liaison Lt. Michael Cote the NCF now houses all parole violators for the entire state of New Hampshire. Violators are sentenced to 90 days during which time, since they are not serving lengthy sentences, they do not receive care for drug and alcohol issues they may have.

Parole violators bring their problems from the street, Cote said. "Just because someone is incarcerated doesn't mean they're not battling addictions."
