Fall sports season on the horizon at Kennett

NORTH CONWAY — There will be a new requirement for all students hoping to play a sport at Kennett High School this fall.

"Kennett High School is introducing impact testing for all athletes for the 2011 school year," the school's physical policy states. "Each student needs to complete a computer base test before starting a sport at Kennett. A pre-participation physical exam for competitive interscholastic sports will be performed within one year of entry into middle school and within one year on entry into senior high school and every other year thereafter. A more recent appraisal of the child's health may be required if deemed necessary, requested by either the school nurse or athletic director."

There will be a meeting for parents and athletes regarding the impact testing. The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, in the Kennett High School gym.

The Kennett football team will be the first team to hit the practice field. Equipment will be handed out on Monday, Aug. 8, and Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. both days. Impact testing will be conducted on Monday, Aug. 8, at 4 p.m. and there will be a parent meeting on the same day at 6 p.m.

Practice for the football team begins at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the high school. Any questions can be directed to coach Mike Holderman at 356-4343, ext. 4516.

The Kennett field hockey team will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 15, at 7:30 a.m. and will continue until 10 a.m. before returning for a second session from 5 to 7 p.m. Impact testing will take place on Aug. 15, at 7 a.m.

The boys' and girls' cross country teams will hit the road for the first practices of the season on Monday, Aug. 15, from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Impact testing will be conducted on Monday, Aug. 15, at 9 a.m.

The boys' soccer team will hold its first practices on Monday, Aug. 15. The first session runs from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and the second session goes from 5 to 7 p.m. Impact testing will take place at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15.

The girls' soccer team will hold its first practice from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, with impact testing taking place the same day at 5 p.m.

The volleyball team will open the season with practice from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, with impact testing tentatively taking place at 3 p.m. the same day.

The Kennett golf team will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the North Conway Country Club. Impact testing will take place the same day at 1 p.m. at the high school.

At Kennett Middle School, all students intending to participate in a sport must have proof of a physical examination on file at the school or give it to Athletic Coordinator Gredel Shaw at the school before participating.

There will be a meeting for parents and athletes to sign up for all middle school sports on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. in the middle school gymnasium. Students will be able to sign up for football, field hockey, boys' and girls' soccer and cross country during that meeting.
