Clarksville man killed in Route 3 crash

June 01, 2011
A local man was killed in a Saturday morning collision on Route 3 in Colebrook. Robert Eidell, 70, of Clarksville, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital.

The crash occurred just south of the state rest area, shortly after 9 a.m. on May 28. Two others were injured.

State Police report that based upon the initial on-scene investigation, Robert J. Queen, 74 of Woburn, Mass., was traveling north on Route 3 in a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe wagon. A 2007 Chevrolet HHR wagon driven by Eidell, was traveling southbound along with his passenger, Carolyn D. Eidell, 72 of Clarksville.

The investigation revealed that Queen's vehicle drifted into the southbound lane and struck Eidell's vehicle. The occupants of both vehicles had to be extricated from their vehicles by responding fire and rescue personnel and were then transported to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook. Mr. Queen and Mrs. Eidell were admitted to UCVH for their injuries, which appear to be non-life threatening at this time.

Responding units to the scene included Troopers from the NH State Police- Troop F and the State Police Technical Accident Reconstruction Unit, as well as officers from the Colebrook Police Department and members of the Colebrook Fire Department and 45th Parallel EMS.

The crash is being investigated by Trooper Christopher Ladd of the NH State Police- Troop F. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Trooper Ladd at (603) 846-3333.
