Flagg, Fernald lead Knights in Whitefield

WHITEFIELD — The Kingswood cross-country ski team skied home with a solid performance at the second New Hampshire Series race on Saturday, Jan. 22, at White Mountains Regional High School in Whitefield.

The Knight girls skied to ninth out of the 17 NHIAA high schools and were 11th out of all 29 teams in attendance. The boys were 14th out of the 17 NHIAA schools and 17th out of the 27 schools sending racers.

The girls' A race saw freshman Micaela Flagg earn a spot on the New Hampshire J2 team with a finish of 48th overall in a time of 23:36. That finish put her tops among the Kingswood skiers.

Caitlyn Brooks skied to second for Kingswood, as she finished 62nd in a time of 24:25 in the 5K classical race. Julia St. Germain took third for Kingswood in 24:51, placing her 69th overall, while Hanne Heinrich rounded out the scoring with a 91st place finish in 26:01.

Annie Peternel (99th, 26:32), Erin Maguire (105th, 26:50) and Christine Chrysafidis (106th, 27:01) also competed for the Knights in the A race.

For the boys, Alex Fernald took the top spot among the Knight skiers, as he raced to 69th place in a time of 20:24.

Chris Brooks took home second for the Knights, racing to 82nd place in 20:45. Matt Lounsbury finished third with his time of 21:01, which placed him 91st overall and Austin Beveridge rounded out the scoring for the Knight boys with a time of 22:58 in 114th place.

Thomas Darling (132nd, 28:39) also competed in the A race for the Kingswood boys.

In the B race, Dylan Tarbox was the lone Kingswood boy, as he raced to 18th place in a time of 23:03.

For the girls, Kiley Runnals led the way with her time of 28:39, which placed her 41st overall. Amanda Langer clocked in at 33:51 for 83rd place and Jess Larsen was 95th in 37:08.

The middle school skiers also raced and Zoe Rafalowski-Houseman was the lone Knight girl, finishing in a time of 21:31 to take third place overall.

For the boys, Sam Coache was first for Kingswood, as he finished 45th overall in 29:20, followed closely by Matt Bean, who clocked in at 29:47 for 46th place. Evan Yeaton wrapped up the Kingswood skiers with a 48th place finish in 30:43.

Coach Tom Merrell's troops were in action after deadline Wednesday at Whitaker Woods in North Conway and will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 1, when they head to Moultonborough for a meet. The Knights wrap up the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 3, at Whitaker Woods in North Conway at 2 p.m.
