Ossipee Main Street Director moving on

January 20, 2011
OSSIPEE — Main Street Executive Director Scott Merrow has given his resignation effective Jan. 29 to take a job which he calls an "amazing opportunity" in Maine.

The new job takes Merrow back to the summer camp world, in which he had worked for many years prior to being hired as part-time director by Main Street a year ago.

Merrow said his year at Main Street was spent building up programs that the previous directors and volunteers already had in place, including the Farmers' Market, Rubber Ducky Race, economic fair, and youth ice fishing derby. "My role was to bring more awareness to the Program and to all the good things the volunteers accomplish," said Merrow.

During the first five years of the Program, Merrow said, there was a lot of volunteer involvement and the next big phase will be to reinvigorate that volunteer support that will carry the program into the next five years.

Merrow added he continues to be very excited to see what the design committee accomplishes. That committee has taken on the task of bringing events and activities to the park in the center of the village. They have visited other arts pavilions and gathered plenty of ideas. The vision is to build a pavilion in the park that will draw people in with events, performances and perhaps even movies in the park.

Merrow is the program's third director since its inception in 2005.
