Homicide investigation underway in Ashland
December 09, 2010
ASHLAND — An investigation headed by the state Attorney General's office is currently underway at an apartment building on Main Street where a suspicious death is believed to have occurred some time late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
While officials remain tight-lipped about the details of the investigation, they have confirmed that a Holderness police officer responding to a 911 call discovered a body on the second floor of the building, located at 30 Main St. (the site of the Daisy Fresh Laundry), early Thursday morning.
Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinkley also confirmed at the scene that the mysterious death appears to have been a homicide. He declined to comment on the exact cause of death, but unconfirmed reports circulating throughout the day Thursday indicated that a stabbing may have been involved. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine the cause of death.
The victim's name is being withheld by authorities pending notification of family members.
Investigators are interviewing an as-yet unidentified person of interest in connection with the murder, but no arrests have been made.
The Record-Enterprise will provide further information on this case as it develops.
