Harrigan to speak at Pemi Fish & Game Club

October 24, 2010
HOLDERNESS — The traditional fall pot-luck dinner at the Pemi Fish and Game Club in Holderness will be held in the clubhouse at 295 Beede Rd. at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29.

Bring a main dish, salad or dessert. If you are not able to bring a donation to the meal, come anyway and you will still get fed! Tickets are $5 adults, and children age eight and under are free. Those bringing a dish may opt to get fed free!

The evening speaker will be well-known writer and speaker John Harrigan of Colebrook, a much sough-after speaker on all things outdoors.

He is a former publisher, a reporter, a storyteller, a lover of the outdoors, and a loyal fan of New Hampshire's North Country, and throughout his career, Harrigan has been able to meld all those facets of his life together.

His column "Woods, Water and Wildlife," has been a fixture in the Union Leader for the last 32 years, celebrating the beauty of New Hampshire's outdoors, while his other column, "North Country Notebook," is now run in 11 weekly newspapers (including our local Plymouth Record Enterprise).

He is the former owner and publisher of three newspapers in northern New Hampshire, and in 1997 was declared First Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for getting his paper out the night of the Colebrook shootings, in which his editor, his longtime companion and two police friends were killed.

All throughout his career, Harrigan has celebrated his North Country while seeing it change before his eyes. Take a look at how the North Country has changed and how it's stayed the same over the last quarter century with Colebrook reporter and raconteur John Harrigan.
