Scarecrow Festival winners announced

WOLFEBORO — Wolfeboro's Eighth Annual Scarecrow Festival featured fantastic and creative scarecrow displays all around town. With spectators touring town while following along the Festival map, the event created the opportunity for enhanced exposure of the Wolfeboro community.

Judging of this friendly competition is always a difficult task with the community's enthusiasm for the event evident in each display. Judges saw great participation this year and after thoughtfully viewing the wonderful creations, the judges are pleased to announce the following awards:

First Place in the Business Category is awarded to "Haunted Park" at Durgin Stables, a display made up of a group of entries including Country Bookseller, Flags Over Winnipesaukee, Penny Candy Shop, Sprouts Children's Clothing & Toys and The Wolfeboro Folk Cellar.

First Place for Clubs & Organizations was awarded to Lakes Region Newcomers Club.

First Place for Individuals & Families goes to "Cotton Mountain String Band," a display created by Ruth Sexton and Bob Norton.

Leone, McDonnell & Roberts earned Second Place in the Business Category with "While the Cats Away…" and Meredith Village Savings Bank received the Third Place award in Business.

Second Place in Clubs & Organizations went to Wolfeboro Area Children's Center and Third Place to the Kingswood Youth Center.

In Individuals & Families, Heather Evitts and Erica Horsken's display earned Second Place and Jane Hunter's entry won Third Place.

In addition to being presented the sought-after Scarecrow Festival award ribbon, First Place Award recipients also receive Chamber Dollars. Chamber dollars are used as cash with any Wolfeboro Area Chamber of Commerce member business.

Ballots cast in the Viewers Choice Award were collected throughout the Festival and when counted it was Lakes Region Newcomers Club receiving the greatest number of votes. "Many were a close tie for Second Place," commented Chamber of Commerce Administrative Assistant Derrie Saunders.

"Congratulations to all the winners," exclaims Chamber of Commerce Marketing Committee Chair Heather Ashton. "A big round of applause to everyone entering this year's Scarecrow Festival," adds Ashton.
