High schools gearing up for fall sports
Football already practicing, others follow on Monday

REGION — As reported last week, the fall high school sports season is just around the corner, with the local football teams already practicing for the first games of the season.
The Kingswood football team, under coach Matt Jozokos, began practice on its new field on Wednesday, Aug. 11, and will continue to practice through the rest of the coming weeks in preparation for the first game, which is Friday, Sept. 3.
The remainder of the seasons will begin on Monday, Aug. 16.
The volleyball team, under new coach Mike Christy, will meet from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, at the high school gym.
The boys' soccer team, with new varsity coach Mike Best at the helm, will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 16, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at The Nick.
Veteran coach Paul Harvey returns to the girls' soccer program and his team will be starting practice at 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, at The Nick.
The cross country team, under the direction of coach Kara Jacobs, will meet at 5 p.m. at Foss Field on Monday, Aug. 16.
Coach Kaitlin Reilly and the Kingswood field hockey team will be on the field on Monday, Aug. 16, from 8 to 11 a.m. at The Nick.
Golf, with veteran coach Warren Tickle at the helm, will also begin practice at Kingswood Golf Club on Monday, Aug. 16.
All Kingswood athletes are asked to come ready to practice on the first day and all paperwork should be turned into the athletic office prior to practicing. Field hockey and soccer players are required to have a mouthguard.

At Prospect Mountain, all teams will be beginning the season on Monday, Aug. 16.
The girls' soccer team practices, with coach Matt Locke, begin on Aug. 16 from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
The boys' soccer team has already held a parent/student meeting and the boys will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. with coach Bubba Noyes at the helm.
The volleyball team will begin its new season with tryouts Aug. 16 through 18 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Athletes are asked to arrive at 5 p.m.
The Prospect Mountain golf team and coach Paul Hitchings will open the preseason on Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
The Prospect cross country team will begin its preseason at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, at the school track, with coach John Tuttle taking the reins for another season.

Kennett Middle School will host a parent/athlete sign up for all students interested in playing a fall sport at the school. Parents and athletes should attend on Monday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. in the KMS gym. Sports offered during the fall season are football, field hockey, cross country, boys' soccer, girls' soccer and cheerleading.
All students intending to participate must have proof of a physical examination on file at the school or must give it to the coach before participating.
