July 26, 2010
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Suncook Valley 10U softball All-Stars have gotten their assignments.

The local girls, who won the New Hampshire northern division state championship last weekend in Meredith, will be hitting the road to Pittsfield, Mass. for the New England Regional Tournament, hosted by the Pittsfield Softball League.

A total of eight teams will be participating, including Londonderry and Souhegan Valley, also from New Hampshire, Revere and Kingston from Massachusetts, Franklin from Maine, Stamford from Connecticut and the host Pittsfield team.

The teams are divided into two pools of four for round-robin play to start the tournament. Suncook Valley is in pool A, with Revere, Londonderry and Stamford.

The local girls will open the tournament with a game against Revere on Friday, July 30, at 3 p.m. on Field C in the complex in Pittsfield. The girls will continue with a 5:30 p.m. game against Londonderry on Field A to finish up their first night of play.

The round-robin portion of the tournament continues with an 8 a.m. game against Stamford on Saturday morning, July 31 on Field A.

The top two teams in each pool will then advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament, which begins on Saturday, July 31, at 3:30 p.m. Games follow at 6 p.m. that night and continue with contests at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. (if necessary) on Sunday, Aug. 1.

Mapquest lists the drive as just under four hours from the Lakes Region. The route the site suggests heads to Concord, and then west on Route 89 to the Route 202/Route 9 left exit 5. After following Route 9 for approximately 41 miles, take the Route 12 south / Route 10 south / Route 9 west ramp and merge onto the Franklin Pierce Highway for a mile before taking the Route 9 west ramp toward Vermont, following Route 9 into Vermont.

In the roundabout, take the second exit (Chesterfield Road) and then merge onto Interstate 91 south towards Massachusetts. After entering the Bay State, take exit 26 (Route 2 west, Route 2A east) toward Greenfield Center and North Adams. Enter the roundabout and take the first exit onto the Mohawk Trail (Route 2 west). After 10 miles, take a right on Route 112 and follow that for 14 miles. Then take a right on Route 9 / USMC League Highway / Berkshire Trail west and continue to follow Route 9 for 25 miles, staying straight onto Dalton Avenue, taking a left onto Benedict Road, where the fields are located.
