Auditors, county delegation to meet on April 19 in Concord
April 07, 2010
BERLIN — The "Battle of the Auditors" is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 19, in Room 202 in the Legislative Office Building (LOB), according to delegation chairman Rep. Robert Theberge, a Democrat of Berlin who heads up the 11-member delegation.
Originally, Rep. Theberge had made a 10 a.m. reservation for the Granite State Room in the North Country Resource Center in Lancaster, but at Thursday evening's dinner at WMCC he noted that he had never actually posted the delegation as meeting there that morning.
The delegation and the county commissioners had agreed at a March 5 delegation meeting that the only way a common figure could be reached of what the exact total dollar figure of the county's year-end receivables and surplus are would be to get the auditors together. Toward that end, the auditors from Melanson, Heath of Nashua, with whom the delegation contracted to conduct a performance audit at a cost that is now $45,000, and longtime county auditors Mason & Rich P. A. of Concord, will be together in the same room at the April 19 session. The commissioners also noted a number of other errors, both big and small, and have refused to pay Melanson, Heath its total outstanding balance.
Typically, state representatives are not in Concord on Mondays. Two state reps, both Republicans of Lancaster, already know they will miss the meeting: Rep. Herb Richardson must report to work that day, and Rep. Bill Remick has longstanding family plans.
Mason & Rich had said they could not meet until after Tax Day, April 15.
