WAKEFIELD — Firefighters from six towns responded to a structure fire at a storage unit off Route 16 on Wednesday morning around 10 a.m.

According to fire officials, eight storage units at Sensible Storage facility -- including one that stored a Toyota Spider MR2 sports car sustained heavy damage in the blaze. The storage complex includes four separate buildings and the eight units that were damaged were along one row. While the state Fire Marshal's office has been called, a preliminary report indicates that the fire was started accidentally. Fire responders on the scene found heavy black smoke pouring from the building and crews used cable cutters to remove the locks from the units. The fire was deemed under control within the hour, but crews remained to drag the items out of the damaged units.

Firefighters from Wakefield, Acton, Maine, Middleton, Milton, Wolfeboro and Ossipee Corner fought the blaze, while police from Wakefield and NH State Police provided traffic control assistance and the public works crews also assisted by sanding the icy parking lot.
