CONWAY — Kennett High School graduate Leanne Smith has been named to the US Olympic alpine ski team, according to nbcolympics.com, which listed her among the athletes competing in the super-combined event.

Smith, a standout three-sport athlete during her four years at Kennett (she also played softball and soccer) will reportedly be competing on Sunday, Feb. 14, in the super-combined, which incorporates a downhill run and a slalom run, a change since the previous Olympics in Turin, Italy four years ago, when the event included one downhill run and two slalom runs.

Smith's teammates Lindsey Vonn, Julia Mancuso and Kaylin Richardson will also be competing in the same event, the Web site reports.

The downhill portion of the event begins at 10 a.m. PT with the slalom runs beginning at 1 p.m. PT. The event is set to air later in the evening on NBC, with coverage beginning in the 7 p.m. block on local NBC affiliates.
