In addition, Lewey will lead a birding field trip on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 9 a.m. Fieldtrip participants will meet at the Nature Learning Center at 9 a.m. and then travel to where the birds are. Anyone can attend this field workshop, even if you did not attend the previous.

Both birding programs are designed for both the novice with a strong interest in learning about birds, as well as the experienced birder looking to broaden their bird knowledge. Lewey will cover birding basics before moving to a deeper investigation of bird ecology, biology, identification, and behavior.

The first in-class portion of the workshop will include birding tools and techniques, understanding avian biology and behavior, and improving observational skills for bird identification, with emphasis on winter-birding. The following Saturday participants will venture into the field to observe, identify, and study birds in their natural habitats using their newly learned skills.

Costs for Becoming A Better Winter Birder are $15 for Workshop I, $20 for Workshop II and $30 for both days. If you are a Tin Mountain member, senior or full time student discounts apply. To register and for more information, call Tin Mountain Conser-vation Center at 447-6991.
