Suspect arrested in connection to Third Ave. shooting
December 09, 2009
BERLIN — Police arrested a third suspect in connection with the November 25 home invasion at 616 Third Ave.
Dennis Ford, 20, of Berlin, was on Saturday and charged with burglary.
At Mr. Ford's bail hearing on Monday Prosecutor Daniel Buteau asked for $150,000 cash bail, because of Mr. Ford's prior convictions and the seriousness of the crime, he said. Mr. Ford was convicted of two counts of resisting arrest and one count of disorderly conduct in 2006, one count of theft in 2007, and one count of criminal trespassing in 2009.
"He has shown a pattern of criminal behavior," Mr. Buteau said, from the time he was old enough to enter the criminal justice system.
Mr. Ford's attorney, a court appointed public defender, said Mr. Ford would be unduly burdened by such a high bail. Mr. Ford's attorney did not enter a plea, but she said Mr. Ford maintains his innocence.
Judge James Michalik set Mr. Ford's bail at $50,000 personal recognizance and $100,000 cash. He scheduled a probable cause hearing for December 15 at 10:30 a.m.
