ALTON — Prospect Mountain High School will have three teams opening the playoffs in the coming few days, as tournament brackets were released by the NHIAA on Monday, Oct. 26.
The Prospect soccer boys are ranked second in Class M and will host a first-round playoff game on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m. against Stevens of Claremont. The Cardinals come in as the 15th seed in the playoffs with a 6-9-1 regular season record.
The Timber Wolf girls' soccer team earned the fourth spot in the Class M final standings. With only 12 girls' teams making the tournament cut, coach Matt Locke's team earned a first round bye and will get an automatic bid to the Class M quarterfinals. That game will take place on Friday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. in Alton, with the Timber Wolves facing off with either the Rams of Raymond or the Stevens Cardinals. Stevens is seeded fifth and Raymond is seeded 12th and those two teams will meet in Claremont on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Raymond won that game by a 1-0 score and will travel to Prospect Mountain to take on the Timber Wolves for the third time in just a few weeks.
The Prospect Mountain volleyball team will open the playoffs as the ninth seed in Division III and thus, will be on the road for the first round of the playoffs, playing at Belmont on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. The Red Raiders are seeded eighth in the Division III tournament and finished the regular season at 9-7, just a step ahead of Prospect's 8-8.
Playoff results will be posted here as soon as they become available and action from the first round will be included in the Nov. 5 print edition of The Baysider.
