"This is our biggest event of the year, and a local favorite for dog enthusiasts and dogs alike," said CAHS Executive Director Virginia Moore. Walkers can register Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Four Your Paws Only on White Mountain Highway in North Conway during "Yappy Hour" or Saturday morning in Schouler Park from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. The Blessing of the Animals will get under way at 9:15 a.m. and the walk will commence at 9:30 a.m.

Following the walk, awards will be given out to the first, second and third place donors in both team and individual categories.

"We have some very desirable pet-related prizes this year, including $100 gift certificates to Four Your Paws Only, beautiful dog beds from Orvis and certificates for veterinary services, dog training sessions, a watercolor portrait of your pet and much more," Moore said.

Following the Walk for the Animals is the Bark in the Park Pet Expo. Many new vendors of pet related goods and services will be on hand this year, as well as a number of food vendors and non-profit animal rescues. The ever-popular State Police Dog demo will be showcased in Ring No. 1 at 11 a.m., and Bonnie Fogg the Animal Communicator will also be back this year.

The dog show will have some new games for participants for 2009, and will be bringing back the bathing suit contest (dogs only, please). The Carnival Games will give dogs and their owners a chance to show off their special talents and win some wonderful prizes.

All dogs adopted from Conway Area Humane Society, as well as other rescue organizations, are welcome to join together for a special photo to be taken at 1:30 p.m. in the park. The day winds down with a drawing for the lucky winner of the 50/50 raffle and the Best Friends Parade, for which all dogs are eligible.

Go to conwayshelter.org for details or pick up a brochure at Four Your Paws Only, Conway Area Humane Society or one of the many locations in town. For more information, call 447-5605.
