ALBANY — The Plymouth ski jumping team took to the chilly air above the Kancamagus Highway on Friday, Jan. 18, for a meet hosted by Kennett High School.

Plymouth put together a solid effort, but came up short of first place, with Hanover finishing first for the overall victory.

Jumpers on the 30-meter hill jumped three times, with the two best overall jumps counting toward their final score.

The Bobcats were led by senior Hugh Kelly, who leaped to fifth place overall on the evening with 106.5 points. His longest jumps were 25.5 and 26 meters.

Andrew Gabbeit came home second for the Bobcats with a total score of 102.5 points, which placed him eighth overall. Gabbeit had long jumps of 26.5 and 27 meters.

Finishing third for the Bobcats was Jake Ross, who had long jumps of 23 and 24 meters to finish with 100 points on the night in ninth place.

The final scorer for the Bobcats was Kyle Hodges, who placed 11th overall with a total of 97.5 points on long jumps of 26.5 and 29 meters.

Andrew Buttolph provided some key insurance for the Bobcats, jumping to 14th place with a total of 92 points. He had long jumps of 23 and 25 meters. Will Johnstone was 26th with 79.5 points on long jumps of 21.5 and 23 meters, with Chris Ebner right behind in 27th place with 78.5 points. He had long jumps of 20.5 and 21 meters. Carolyn Ebner finished in 30th place with 74 points on long jumps of 19.5 and 20.5 meters and Ian Barker rounded out the jumpers on the 30-meter hill with a 35th place finish with 69.5 points. He had long jumps of 19.5 and 20 meters. Bert Wieliczko jumped on the 20-meter hill and had distances of 13 and 16 meters for 58 points and 40th place.

Kelly, Johnstone, Hodges, Gabbeit, Ross, Barker and Wieliczko all performed double duty on the day, as they competed all day in the alpine race at King Pine in Madison before heading to the jumping meet up the road in Albany.

The Bobcats have the next hosting duties, as they will host a home meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, at the high school jump. The team is at Hanover for a meet on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m.
