BRISTOL — The New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association and New Hampshire Athletic Directors Association held their annual NHIAA and NHADA Scholar Athlete Awards Ceremony on Monday, Feb. 6, at The Capital Center for the Arts in Concord for Division I and III. The ceremony for Division II and IV will be held on March 13.

NHIAA high school student athletes from throughout New Hampshire were recognized for achieving academic and athletic excellence. Award recipients are nominated each year by their schools based on criteria, which require the high school seniors to have a B+ grade point average, letter and be currently active in two sports as a senior, participate in community service activities and serve as role models to their peers.

NHADA President Peter Cofran, Newfound Regional High School Athletic Director and President of the NHADA, presented the certificates to more than 290 DIII student athletes.

There were seven NRHS scholar athletes recognized; Tylor Austin, Gretchen Dancewicz-Helmers, Megan Gebhardt, Charles Gould, Amanda Johnston, Becky Norton and Molly Schilling. In addition, Norton opened the program with her outstanding singing of the National Anthem.

The NHADA presents a $500 scholarship to one male and one female, from each division, who it is felt had the most outstanding essay answering the question, "How High School Athletics Has Impacted My Life." This year, Newfound's Austin was the recipient of the male $500 scholarship.
