June 01, 2015JAFFREY — The Newfound track team came up with a couple of great performances in the Division III State Meet on Saturday, May 30, at Conant High School in Jaffrey.
For the second year in a row, Noah Fogg led the charge for the Bears, as he won the championships in the javelin, tossing a distance of 157 feet, two inches, besting his winning distance from last year by almost 10 feet.
The Bears also got a sixth place finish in the 4X100-meter relay, with the team of Matt MacDonald, Ben Morrill, Jake Holton and Dustin Bucklin finishing with a time of 46.98 seconds.
The Bears only had a few other boys competing in individual events.
MacDonald competed in the 300-meter hurdles and finished in ninth place with a time of 44.72 seconds.
Bucklin qualified in the pole vault, but he was unable to clear the opening height.
In the 4X400-meter relay, the team of MacDonald, Ben Learned, Holton and Bucklin ran to 15th place overall in a time of 3:53.
The Newfound girls' team had two individuals earning points with top six finishes.
Jasmine Patten finished in fifth place in the discus with a toss of 95 feet, seven inches.
In the 100 meters, Bridget Lavin ran to sixth in the preliminaries in a tie of 13.5 seconds and then finished sixth in the finals with a time of 13.51 seconds.
Andrea Markiewicz competed in the 800 meters and finished in eighth place with a time of 2:36.73.
In the 4X100-meter relay, the Bear team of Ashley Nowell, Sami Cote, Yuliya Hrabenko and Lavin finished in 10th place with a time of 56.08 seconds.
Hrabenko also qualified in the pole vault, but she was unable to clear the opening height.
With his win, Fogg earned an automatic bid to the Meet of Champions, which will take place on Saturday, June 6, at Londonderry High School at 2:30 p.m.
