MEREDITH — After two years leading the Inter-Lakes girls' JV basketball team, Luis Adorno steps up to the varsity program this year. He is hoping that a group of seven upperclassmen returning to the fold will be able to lead the way as the Lakers return to a full Division III schedule.

"Our goal for this year to take a step forward from last year and playing more team-oriented basketball," Adorno said. "We have some really promising young talent and I would love to have them playing cohesive basketball by mid-December."

The Lakers have four seniors this year, with Taylor Alibrio, Caitlyn Clark, Erin Furnee and Haven Lopez back on the court after helping the volleyball team to the Final Four this fall. Juniors back on the court expected to play key roles are Molly Moynihan, Hannah Pratt and Joscelyn Boucher.

"It will be interesting to see how we will be able to blend as a group of upperclassmen while taking advantage of some of our up and coming underclass," Adorno stated.

The first-year head coach notes that sophomore Olivia Kimball and freshman Lianna Keenan will be key newcomers for the Lakers.

"I think that these two players will be something special to watch over the next few years," the Laker coach said.

Adorno notes that most of his players are coming off fall sports seasons, so there were still some leftover injuries hanging around.

"Most of our players play multiple sports and a good number of them were recovering from minor injuries this preseason," Adorno stated. "We have not had the ability to get together and work on skills and conditioning as much as I would have loved to, but I'm hoping the rest and relaxation has a positive impact on our season."

After last year's unusual season, which saw the Lakers play exclusively against teams from around the Lakes Region and north, Inter-Lakes is back to a normal Division III schedule, plus a couple of games against local rival Moultonborough.

The Lakers will play two games each against St. Thomas, Moultonborough and Newfound and single games against Stevens, Newport, Kearsarge, Mascoma, Prospect Mountain, Berlin, Winnisquam, White Mountains, Somersworth, Belmont and Gilford.

The season officially kicks off on Friday, Dec. 10, with a game at Stevens at 7 p.m. and continues on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at St. Thomas at 6:30 p.m.
