Library to offer wide range of events this month

September 05, 2019
MEREDITH — A walking tour through France, Batman trivia, and library card sign-up events are just a few of the special programs scheduled at the Meredith Public Library in September.

The library has a number of programs planned this month for people of all ages.

In "Walking France," Gale Carey will talk about her 35-mile trek along the Chemin de St. Jacques, following in the footsteps of the pilgrims from 1,000 years ago. The presentation will include a PowerPoint with videos and audio, a display of her backpack and its contents, and some Madeleines (French cakes). The presentation will be on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

Take on Youth Services Librarian John Locke in a Lego construction challenge. In "Beat Mr. John: Construction Challenge," build Lego cars powered by balloons and race against Mr. John. The activity will be on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. and is for youths aged eight to 18.

September is Library Card Signup Month and the library is holding two events. On Thursday Sept. 12 teens can sign up for a library card or refer a friend. Those who sign up and those who bring in a friend will be entered into a raffle. Sign up from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Young Adult balcony.

Kids can sign up for a library card at Sign-Up Saturday on Sept. 14. From 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. sign up for a library card in the Children's Room.

Anyone who is a Meredith resident or students who attend the Inter-Lakes School District can sign up for free, the fee is $20 a year for non residents.

Celebrate Batman on Sept. 20 at "Batman Trivia for Teens and Tweens." Every September, DC Comics celebrates the Dark Knight, and this year marks the comic's 80th anniversary. Celebrate with a trivia event quizzing teens and tweens on Friends, Foes, Gadgets, Places, and Actual Bats. Batman Trivia will take place from 3:30-4:30 p.m. for ages eight to 18.

The library will host a showing of the new "Aladdin" movie with Will Smith on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 5-6:30 p.m. "Aladdin" runs 128 minutes and is rated PG for some action/peril.

The Meredith Library Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. and the Friends of the Library will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 3:30 p.m. These meetings are open to the public.
