March 24, 2014CHITTENDEN, Vt. – For Trevor Colby, the nordic ski season lasted quite a long time.
That's because the Inter-Lakes junior qualified for the Eastern High School Championship, competing for team New Hampshire at the Mountain Top Trails from March 14-16.
Colby and team N.H. finished fourth overall in the competition, with Vermont leading the way with 15,224 total points. Massachusetts was second with 13,330 points while Maine (13,286) and New Hampshire (11,437) were third and fourth ahead of fifth-place New York.
Colby's weekend in Vermont kicked off on Friday with the 5K Skate race, and he cracked the top 100 with a 95th place showing. Colby crossed the line with a time of 18 minutes, 4 seconds.
He had two races on Saturday, kicking off with the 7.5K classical race in the morning. Colby, the Division IV state champion in the classic, finished 85th overall earning 48 points towards New Hampshire's team total with a time of 25:50.
In the afternoon, Colby raced in the 1KM skate sprint, and he had his best individual finish of the weekend by placing in 79th position (3:10.39, 51 points).
The three-day event came to an end on Sunday with a four-person team relay. Colby teamed with Caroline Sweny (Hopkinton), Sawyer Gardner (Holderness) and Nick Barker (White Mountains) to finish 48th overall in 33:22.
For the weekend, Colby had the 89th most points overall, scoring 99 points for New Hampshire.
