March 05, 2014FRANCONIA — This week's story about the dozens of people concerned with possible changes to senior citizen ticket pricing at Cannon Mountain showed that many people treasure the ski area. Cannon's received further signs of support recently. In two contests, Cannon garnered high rankings compared to ski areas in the state and across New England.
Cannon finished at the top of a WMUR contest this month. The survey ranked the ski areas in New Hampshire. Additionally, New Hampshire's Living Legend finished in the top four in a www.boston.com contest that placed 32 New England ski areas in a single-elimination competition known as the Skiing Showdown.
Stowe ski area in Vermont defeated Cannon in the Showdown last week. Stowe then won the final round against Jay Peak, another Vermont destination. More than 24,000 people cast online ballots during the contest.
John DeVivo, General Manager at Cannon Mountain, was pleased to see Cannon do so well. "We're thrilled to have been ranked the #1 Ski Area in New Hampshire by the viewers of WMUR," he said on Friday.
Placing in the top four in this year's boston.com Skiing Showdown was another great sign for Cannon, DeVivo continued. In the third round, Cannon beat out Sugarloaf, a Maine ski resort that won the Showdown last year.
"We feel that our loyalists and team members are as passionate as those at any ski area in the world," DeVivo said. "We're very proud of our product, service, and scenery, and feel that they're unmatched anywhere in the state," he concluded.
Loon Mountain in Lincoln finished third in the WMUR poll. Loon lost to Stowe in the second round of the Skiing Showdown this year.
