LINCOLN — It may have been 12 degrees below zero on Friday, Dec. 13, but the Profile Patriots were too hot to handle in the second half of their game against the Lin-Wood Lady Lumberjacks. Coming into the game, the Patriots lost a tough game to the Littleton Crusaders and were search for their first win of the season.

As for the Lin-Wood Lady Lumberjacks, this match up was the team's first game of the season, and after going winless last season, getting a win early would be the positive event that the team and head coach Larry Gibson is looking to build on.

As play began, the Patriots took to the offensive early on as their possession play led to a great deal of offensive time and 15 points. However, on the defensive side of the ball there was not much to be seen. Luckily for the Pats, the Lady Lumberjacks were not able to muster a whole lot on offense, as the first quarter ended with the score of 15-6 in favor of the Patriots.

When play began in the second quarter, not a lot had changed in either team's game plan, except for the fact that both teams stepped up their physical play and battled for the entire eight minutes of the second quarter. When the halftime buzzer sounded, the Patriots still held the lead with the score 25-14.

Obviously upset with his team's defensive performance in the first half, Profile head coach Ben Arsenault muttered under his breath, "That was probably the worst defensive first half we have played so far."

When the second half began, Arsenault must have gotten his point across effectively because the Patriots shut the Lady Lumberjacks down from that point on. In fact, the Lumberjacks were unable to get single point in the second half of the game.

As a result, the Profile Patriots came away with the 46-14 win, their first of the season.

Leading the scoring for the Profile Patriots was Alli Kennedy, as she was able to put in 21 points, but the scoring for the team was spread pretty well as the Pats controlled the entire second half.

As for the defensive adjustment at the half, Arsenault was very happy at how the team repaired their style. "Our defense did not play well in the first half at all," Arsenault began. "We were reaching and running around and as a result we were getting a ton of fouls.

"In the second half we played sound positional defense and as a result we didn't let Lin-Wood score at all," he continued.

Arsenault, in his first year of coaching, made his point and his philosophy clear, "I have a firm belief that if you do what is asked of you and you are where you are supposed to be on the court, good things will start to happen."

With the win, the Profile Patriots move to 1-2 on the season. After losing two straight, the victory was much needed as they team comes into the final week before the holiday break.
