Towns to begin processing absentee ballots

October 22, 2020
A change in election law this year, in consideration of a higher than normal number of absentee ballots due to the Covid-19 pandemic, allows towns to schedule a time for partial pre-processing of ballots. The public is welcome to view the proceedings.

At that time, the outer envelope of each returned absentee ballot shall be opened, the affidavit on the inner envelope shall be examined, the voter's name shall be announced, an opportunity for a challenge of the ballot shall be given, and a notation will be made on the checklist to help facilitate the processing of the ballots on Election Day.

Tuftonboro will be preprocessing absentee ballots on Friday, Oct. 30, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Town Office building on Route 109A.

Wolfeboro has set Saturday, Oct. 31, at 9 a.m. for the process to begin in the Great Hall of the Town Hall.

Voting in both towns on Tuesday, Nov. 3, will go from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. In Wolfeboro, voting will take place in the Great Hall of the Wolfeboro Town Hall. In Tuftonboro, voting will take place in the Tuftonboro Central School, 205 Middle Rd. To enter the school, voters will be required to wear a cloth face covering or a mask. A separate polling area, in a tent outside the building, will be available for any voters who do not wish to or are unable to wear a mask.
