July 24, 2014WOLFEBORO — Wolfeboro's town offices in Brewster Memorial Hall will be closed next week, from July 28 through Aug. 1, as part of the planned move to temporary quarters at Huggins Hospital.
Offices will reopen at Huggins on Monday, Aug. 4, at 8 a.m. The Huggins site is expected to be used as temporary offices for one year as renovation work is done on the 1890 Brewster building.
Town employees have already spent the past few weeks getting ready for the move. This has involved disposing of unwanted furniture and equipment and the recycling of literally tons of obsolete and unneeded paper records.
The first two days next week, Monday and Tuesday, will be spent packing up everything that needs to be moved. On Wednesday the movers will come and move active files, furniture and equipment to the Huggins location and dead storage items to the Electric Department building on Middleton Road, and on Thursday and Friday town employees will unpack and set up their offices at Huggins while phone and computer network connections are re-established.
As the offices are reopening work will also begin on the renovation of Town Hall. "People should expect dramatic changes to the Town Hall building," Town Manager Dave Owen noted at the most recent selectmen's meeting. Construction fencing will go up, the front windows on the main floor with be removed, and the front gable facing South Main Street will be reconstructed.
Those who like to put off things like car registrations to the very last day of the month need to get to the town offices before 4 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, July 25. Otherwise they will have to wait until Aug. 4.
