PTA Hike-a-thon ends this Sunday

There are a few days left to do some local hiking to benefit Gilford schools as the Gilford PTA's Hike-a-thon event ends on Oct. 17.

Starting on Oct. 9, the Gilford PTA has been holding its annual Hike-a-thon fundraiser. The event will culminate this Sunday with a big celebration.

The third Hike-a-Thon is a virtual event where people of all ages can hike the nature trail behind GES or Mount Rowe between Oct. 9 and Oct. 17. It is the Gilford PTA's only fundraiser.

Students who wish to take part can sign up at https://app.99pledges.com/fund/2021gilford and then start collecting pledges. As of press time the fundraiser had raised over $6,500 of the $8,000 goal.

Participants can hike up the Nature Trail behind the elementary school or up Mount Rowe any time between Oct. 9-Oct. 17. Participants can take selfies at "Selfie Sponsors" stations around the trails and tag them with #gilfordschoolhike on social media for a $10 Amazon gift card.

Pledges can win some fun prizes. Over $25 in prizes wins an event t-shirt, over $50 wins a Hike-A-Thon water bottle, and over $100 in pledges wins a bag.

The top earner will receive a $100 Amazon gift card, second place will get Gunstock passes, and third place will win passes to Altitude Trampoline Park.

All the money raised will go toward the Gilford PTA and its work in the schools, such as special presentations, books and supplies, and much more,

The fundraiser will culminate on Sunday, Oct. 17 with the Fall Celebration at Gilford Elementary School, which will feature music, maple cotton candy, hiking, a 50/50 raffle, and more. The Pours & Petals food truck will also be at the festival serving coffee, lemonades, cider donuts, hot chocolate, and cider.
