Registration open for GYC Turkey Trot

October 13, 2021
This Thanksgiving runners and walkers will have the chance to lace up their sneakers and get some exercise before a big dinner during the annual Gilford Youth Center Turkey Trot.

Registrations are open for the annual 5K race for all ages taking place on Nov. 25, Thanksgiving morning.

The race started 14 years ago by a group of locals who wanted to get a morning run on Thanksgiving and now draws around 400 people a year.

The Turkey Trot is a timed 5K run/walk and welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels. The course starts at the GYC and goes through Gilford Village before ending back at the GYC. According to the GYC website the course is generally flat and runs at a fast place, making it ideal for both runners and walkers.

Those taking part as runners will be timed. Times will be posted for the overall times as well as for age groups 12 and under, 13-19, 20-30,31-40, 41-50, 51-60, and 60 and over. Times will be posted the same day and will also be available on the GYC website.

Walkers will not be timed.

"The family walk is a great way for to start the day," read the GYC Web site. "We encourage walkers of all ages, as well as pets and strollers.

The Turkey Trot takes place on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, starting at 8:45 a.m. for walkers and 9 a.m. for runners. The event costs $26 per person and $90 for a family rate up to five people.

The Turkey Trot will go on rain, snow, or shine.

Registration is open on the GYC Web site at http://www.gilfordyouthcenter.com/2021-turkey-trot-5k-race--family-walk.html. The first 100 people who register will receive a free Turkey Trot t-shirt.

Proceeds will benefit the Gilford Youth Center and its programs.
