WHITEFIELD — The Berlin Mountaineers traveled to Whitefield to face the Spartans for homecoming. It was a battle up until the very end when Berlin snuck one by Spartan goalie Jen Fowler for the 1-0 win.

Berlin had early control in the game, but the Spartans held their own. Ciera Challinor of White Mountains sent the ball over to Abby McCusker, where the two moved through the Berlin defense. Berlin's Cienna Langlais snagged the ball and sped down the field but was stopped by the stick of Spartan defensive player Alyssa Mendez who stopped the rally.

At the 11-minute mark, the Spartans took a free hit, but Berlin regained possession. Mendez was there to clear the ball once again. Challinor was able to stop a drive down the field from Berlin's Audrianna Lefebvre. The Spartans were in scoring position when McCusker took a pass from Adrianna Dami. McCusker put the ball right in the circle, but Berlin keeper Arianah Richard made the save.

At the five-minute mark, the Spartans had a corner opportunity, with Challinor putting the ball right in front of the net, but Berlin was there to clear it. Berlin had a chance to score off of a corner with less than two minutes to go. Berlin's Emily Roy sent the ball into the circle over to Langlais but the Spartan defense was too quick.

In the second quarter, Dami took a free hit, but Lily Kelley of Berlin snagged the ball. Kelley made it past Mendez but was stopped by Dami. Langlais took a shot on goal but was too wide. Fowler made her first save of the game at 10:30 into the second quarter. Challinor took a shot on goal after a corner but was blocked by Berlin's Erin McCormick. Fowler made three more saves to close the quarter.

The teams were evenly matched in the third and fourth quarters, with both teams taking unlucky shots on goal.

The game went into overtime, with Berlin scoring one minute in. Mia Letourneau sent the ball over to Langlais, who was stopped by Spartan Dorieanne Labens. Letourneau then sent the ball into center where Langlais finished the play to secure the 1-0 win.
