Whitefield Library and Lions team up to innovate Halloween

October 22, 2020
WHITEFIELD — The Whitefield Public Library and the Whitefield Lions Club are teaming up to offer a safer, socially distanced Halloween experience for the children of Whitefield and our surrounding towns. From 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, Halloween Day, families will be invited to take a "Great Pumpkin Walk" around the library grounds. Everyone who participates will be able to choose a free book and will get candy from the Lions (while supplies last).

Police Chief Ed Sampson said there will be no town sponsored Trick or Treating this year and that households who choose to do so anyway should be sure to comply with CDC guidelines. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays/halloween.html

To keep everyone safe in these uncertain times, masks covering the nose and mouth will be required by all people attending the walk. This is in addition to Halloween make-up and costume masks. Volunteers from the library and the Lions will be available to hand out masks to those who need them and to ensure that the walk is not too crowded. Visitors to the walk will be asked to keep a distance of at least 6 feet between unrelated parties. Candy and books will be pre-bagged.

Parking will be available in the lots surrounding the library, including the churches, banks, and around the Common. Please be aware that the Catholic Church has Mass at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and those spaces will be needed for parishioners starting at 3:30pm. For the safety of all involved, please do not park on the roads.

In the spirit of community and kicking off the holiday season, there will be a box for non-perishable food items for Project Homebound Donations at the library the day of the event and until Nov. 14. Please consider bringing an item or two to donate!

Anyone wishing to help with this effort can contact Courtney at whitefieldpubliclibrary@gmail.com or call 837-2030. We are still looking for the following items:

• Children's books in good condition (board books through Young Adult)

• Pumpkins

• Corn Stalks

• Gallon size plastic bags

• Volunteers to help on Saturday morning (set up and the event), during the event from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and Sunday (clean up)

Please note that significant increases in Covid cases in Whitefield or Coös Country may impact our ability to hold this event. Please check the Whitefield Community page or the Whitefield Public Library pages on Facebook for updates.
