White Mountains Regional holds Winter Sports Awards

WHITEFIELD — Athletes who attend White Mountains Regional High School were honored for their efforts during the Winter Sports Awards held on March 13. The number of athletes who made the honor roll as well as the high honors far exceeded the numbers in recent years.

The "Athlete Who Went Above and Beyond" was given to senior wrestler Jared Cape. Cape wrestled his way to the top after winning the D-III State Championship in the 170-pound weight class. Accolades were given to Cape for being a great team leader and acting as an additional coach for the team. Cape puts in extra effort on the mat as well as in the weight room to improve his performance. In addition to being number one in his class, Cape directed the spring play "Almost Maine." Cape was described as the "Ultimate Spartan."

Full time volunteer coaches were presented with gifts, Tim White (boys' hoop), wrestling (Scott Kleindschrodt), alpine (Karin Hakala), Nordic (Brian Beattie), unified (Ken Mayer) and cheerleading (Jon Quigley).

Boys' basketball awards were given to Hunter MaCleod (JV Most Improved), Zeke Pribbernow (varsity Most Distinguished), Jared Plumley (Varsity Coach's Award) and Elijah Ratliffe (JV Coach's Award).

Spartan cheerleading honors went to Taima Ronish (Most Improved), Hannah Kirk (Most Distinguished), Myah Bastian (Most Distinguished) and Amanda Haskins (Coach's Award).

WMRHS girls' basketball awards went to Makenna Force (Coach's Award), Kaitlyn Nelson (Most Distinguished) and Bri Watson (Most Improved).

The Spartan wrestlers were awarded with top honors from their coach during the Winter Sports Awards on March 15. Kevin Curnane (Most Improved), Jon Austin (Most Distinguished) and Jared Cape (Coach's Award).

The WMRHS alpine awards went to Riley Corrigan (Most Improved), Hunter Judge (Most Distinguished), Tricia Foster (Coach's Award) and Grace Gensamer (Most Distinguished).

The Spartan Nordic team award winners were Hallie Chancey (Most Distinguished), Sierra Lamphere (Coach's Award), Leah Dutkewych (Most Distinguished) and Annie Kopp (Most Improved).

The WMRHS unified basketball team celebrated during the Winter Sports Awards on March 15. Nick Hatfield (Most Distinguished), Ava Crompton (Most Distinguished) and Mason Stuart (Most Improved).

Spartan Nordic boys' awards went to Sam Heyliger (Coach's Award), Sam Call (Most Distinguished) and Kevin Schanlaber (Most Improved).
