LANCASTER — Lancaster Police Department Patrolman David Lyon, a 2002 WMRHS graduate who was born in Littleton in 1984 and attended the Whitefield School, successfully completed the N. H. Police Academy for full-time law enforcement officers on Dec. 21, 2012. The commencement address was delivered by then-Gov. John Lynch.

After his high school graduation, his goal was to become an auto mechanic, and Lyon earned an associate's degree in business management and auto technology at Wyotech in Blairsville, Penn. Although he has worked in several jobs since then, the bulk of his experience was working for natural gas pipeline contractors in locations across the country, including in Penn., Wisc., and N.Y. "You go wherever you're needed," Lyon explained.

He also worked for 18 months for Stratham Tire in Lancaster, where he became assistant manager.

After returning to the North Country, Lyon said his attention was increasingly drawn to law enforcement. He turned down an opportunity at Fish and Game, because it would have required moving to the Seacoast. Lyon jumped at the opportunity to apply for an opening at the LPD, however, and he joined the LPD in July 2012.

"I'm enjoying my job just as much as I expected to," Lyon said.

Lyon and his wife Jennifer have an 18-month-old daughter Adison. Lyon, a son of Diane and Douglas Lyon, has an older brother, D. J., and a younger sister, Cody Lyon.

Police Chief William "Bill" Colborn heads the department of seven full-time officers, including Sergeant Paul Hood, Corporal Brad Willey, and Patrolmen Jason Desrochers, Patrick Carr, Tim Charbonneau and Lyon, plus secretary Wendy Houghton.
