Dollar General expects to break ground by month's end

August 15, 2012
WHITEFIELD — Ground will likely be broken within the next two weeks for a single-story 9,100 square-foot Dollar General discount retail store on Route 3 North across from the state liquor store, according to Matt Casey of the Zaremba Group, LLC, of Lakewood, Ohio.

The construction contract for the building, expected to be in the $750,000 range, has not yet been awarded, Casey wrote in an e-mail exchange.

The Zaremba Retail Company (www.zarembagroup.com/retail/html) is a full-service, fully integrated development company that focus on both shopping center and program development. The closest completed project listed on its website is a Borders store in Braintree, Mass., located in the metropolitan Boston area.

Dollar General, headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tenn., describes itself on its website as "the nation's largest small-box discount retailer," whose mission is to "make shopping for everyday needs simpler and hassle-free by offering a carefully edited assortment of the most popular top-quality brands at low everyday prices in small, convenient locations."

DG is also looking into building a similar retail store in Groveton on Route 3 North, its representative explained at a recent Northumberland Planning Board meeting.
