September 03, 2020OSSIPEE — Moiuntain View Community, the county nursing facility located in Ossipee, has received notice that four staff members and one resident have tested positive for Covid-19. Additional test results are expected from the state by Friday, Sept. 3.
Administrator Howie Chandler reports that the resident and three of the staff members who tested positive are asymptomatic. The one staff member who experienced symptoms has vastly improved, he was relieved to report.
Presently, two of the four units, Chocorua and Whittier, are under quarantine, and he has temporarily suspended outdoor visitation out of "an abundance of caution."
Chandler says protocols are such that someone could have the infection but not transmit it, but the disease broke through the defenses. So, staff is studying how the defenses can be reinforced.
"If you catch it early, it reduces the likelihood of spread," says Chandler.
He remarked that they had a dry run in responding to the false positives not so long ago.
"We look at it week by week. We're hoping to restore [visitation] very soon. We were on the verge of expanding visitation to include some visits inside the building for those residents who are unable to go outside," he comments, noting that some residents have not been able to receive visits from family members for months.
