OSSIPEE — Lakes Region Humane Society (LRHS) has been providing a safe and compassionate shelter for lost, abused or unwanted animals since 1995. Like many local nonprofits, the pandemic has created an increase in need and decrease in funding for the Society.

Fortunately, LRHS has been able to care for cats and dogs in need and to continue to promote the health and welfare of animals through community outreach and education due in part to generous donations by the public and a Paycheck Protection Program loan through Meredith Village Savings Bank (MVSB).

As Executive Director Megan Williams noted, thanks to the exhaustive efforts of the MVSB Commercial Lending team, they are able to continue their work, including assisting a cat and her four two-week old kittens that recently arrived at the shelter.

"Getting approved for this loan meant the world to our little organization. I've been holding my breath for a while and this is refreshing. MVSB has been there for us at every turn and even though this loan plan was changing hourly, the dedicated MVSB team pulled it off!" Williams said

While the Society is fortunate to receive donations from the community, much of their fee-based income has been compromised. Thanks to this loan, they can continue to support the animals of our local community. Those interested in supporting their work can donate directly on the Lakes Region Humane Society Web site at www.lrhs.net.

Meredith Village Savings Bank (MVSB) has been able to help support many local nonprofits and businesses with the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan as offered through the CARES Act, and implemented by the Small Business Administration (SBA). MVSB commercial lenders have assisted with 589 loans amounting to over $50 Million in funding and financial relief to our local business partners.

Lakes Region Humane Society (LRHS) works with the surrounding towns of Tuftonboro, Ossipee, Wolfeboro, Wakefield, and Effingham to take in pets who are surrendered by their owners or brought in as strays. LRHS ensures that once a pet is checked into their shelter, he/she receives quality food, shelter, grooming, enrichment, medical assistance and love while they seek out a perfect forever home for him/her. Every pet adopted out from LRHS is fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and healthy. LRHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and receives no federal or state funding. The organization is run strictly on donations raised by their Board of Directors.

Unlike a stock bank, MVSB is a mutual savings bank that operates for the benefit of their depositors, borrowers and surrounding communities. As a result, MVSB has remained steadfast in fostering the economic health and well-being of the community since they were founded in 1869. For more than 150 years, Meredith Village Savings Bank (MVSB), has been serving the people, businesses, non-profits and municipalities of Central New Hampshire.
