Santa Program seeks help making the season brighter for those in need

November 07, 2018
OSSIPEE — For nearly 40 years, the Ossipee Santa Project has been making Christmas merrier for local children. From its humble beginning in 1980 delivering presents to two families, the project has grown to providing gifts to about 400 children last Christmas.

Ossipee Concerned Citizens Director Donna Sargent said the program is for Ossipee, Effingham and Freedom children age newborn to 16. Applications are available at OCC on Dore Street in Center Ossipee.

Santa Project works because of the generosity of many people and businesses. Those in the giving spirit can look for Christmas trees adorned with paper "wish" ornaments soon at Hannaford and local churches and Northway Bank. Take an ornament, shop for the item listed on it, and return the gift (unwrapped) to the tree location. Santa Project elves will collect the gifts and make sure they get to the families in time for Christmas.

The elves also go shopping to make sure all of the wishes are fulfilled. Monetary donations can be made by sending a check to OCC, PO Box 426, Center Ossipee, NH 03814. Donations of wrapping paper, tape and volunteer time are all gratefully accepted.
