Effingham selectmen looking for bids on town work

June 05, 2014
EFFINGHAM — Selectmen here have entered into a contract with former Effingham selectman Theresa Swanick to manage the town's website. Since signing the agreement at the board's May 13 meeting, Swanick has made many improvements to the website at www.effinghamnh.net, including adding pertinent announcements and adding the most recent available board meeting minutes.

Of note are two advertisements on the website. Until 2 p.m. June 23, selectmen are accepting bids from contractors for the three-year winter roads contract. The bid specifications are available at Effingham Municipal Building and on the town's website. The specifications include that the contractor will be responsible to plow, sand, and salt all of or portions of 36 town roads, equaling about 42 miles. The contractor will also be responsible for maintaining the parking lots and driveways of five town-owned facilities and keeping clear five dry hydrants, including the canoe ramp at Route 25 and Route 153.

Selectmen are also accepting bids until 5 p.m. June 17 from anyone interested in removing the town's present salt storage shed and rebuilding a new one in its place. The steel building will be supplied by the town. The contractor will be responsible for installing the building, building the foundation, and installing electricity. The full specifications can be found at the town's website and at the Municipal Building.

In an effort to get more Effingham residents involved in town happenings, there will be an open house June 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Residents are invited to attend for refreshments to learn more about the various town boards, including what the boards are responsible for and how volunteers can help.

Effingham Selectman Lawrence Edwards continues to attend the multi-town meetings where elected and public safety officials are looking at long term planning for emergency medical services. The group is set to meet again next in Ossipee June 6.
