NORTH CONWAY — The Kennett unified basketball team gave fans a big reason to cheer on Monday, Feb. 4, as the Eagles won their first game of the season in the final home game of the season.

The Eagles got out to an early lead on Profile-Lin-Wood and never looked back, taking a 19-12 win over the visitors.

With the Kennett Pep Band and cheerleaders providing a festive atmosphere in the gym, the Eagles got out to a 4-0 lead and took a 7-4 lead after one quarter of play.

Jacob Potochniak scored the first hoop of the game for Kennett and Charles Hill followed with a hoop for the 4-0 lead. After a hoop from the visitors, Hill drained a three from the top of the three-point arc for a 7-2 lead. Profile-Lin-Wood hit the quarter's final hoop, cutting the lead to 7-4 after eight minutes of play.

After the visitors scored the first bucket of the second quarter, cutting the lead to just one, coach Courtney Turchan's Eagles came storming back and hit the final three baskets of the quarter and took a 13-6 lead at the halftime break. Hill hit one of the hoops and Potochniak hit the other two.

The visitors hit the first hoop of the second half before Kennett's Dallas Savary found the bottom of the net for a 15-8 lead for the Eagles. Profile-Lin-Wood got the final bucket of the quarter and cut the lead to 15-10 after three.

The Eagles got a pair of buckets from Michael Davis in the fourth quarter to pull away and took the 19-12 win.

With the game over, the two teams decided to give even more players the chance to get out on the court, playing a fifth quarter of action, which saw Profile-Lin-Wood outscore the Eagles by a 6-4 advantage. Savary and Davis both had baskets for the Eagles in the extra frame.

The Eagles will be finishing up their regular season schedule today, Feb. 14, at 4 p.m. at White Mountains Regional High School in Whitefield.
