Who's running for what in area towns

REGION — The filing period has closed and Ossipee, Effingham, Freedom, and Tamworth town clerks have issued the official list of candidates that will be on the town voting ballots March 12. There are few contested positions and some were still vacant after the filing period closed.


There is only one contested race on the Tamworth ballot. Shawn Bross and Daniel Teryek are both vying for the fireward-south three-year position.

Steve Gray is running for selectmen; Mariette Ross for treasurer; Rebecca Boyden and David Cluff for two planning board seats; Patricia Fahey for the one-year planning board seat; Robert Seston for trustee of trust funds; John Roberts for cemetery trustee; George Plender, Sheryl Power, and Ruth Timchak for the three available library trustee positions; and David Bowles for the fireward-north seat.

On the school district ballot, Charles Pugh and Helen Steele have filed for two open school board seats; Jennifer Mashiak for school clerk; Jill Lavoie for school treasurer and Kent Hemmingway, Jr. as Moderator.


There is a five-way race for selectmen here as Richard Morgan, Roy Barron, Joseph Deighan, and Sandra "Sam" Martin will all be trying to unseat incumbent Kathleen Maloney who is seeking re-election to the three-year seat.

Incumbent June Loud will face competition from two candidates as she seeks re-election to her three-year term as water and sewer commissioner. Loud will be challenged by Will DeWitte and Roger terKuile.

Several candidates will face no opposition Election Day March 12 including Kellie Skehan for Town Clerk/Tax Collector; Corey Ryder for trustee of trust funds; Karen Deighan for library trustee; Jane terKuile for Budget Committee; Condict Billings and Roger terKuile for planning board; and Stanley Brothers and Ski Kwiatkowski for zoning board. No candidates have filed for the three-year cemetery trustee position or a three-year Budget Committee spot.


The only contested race in this town is the one for Road Agent as Josh Battles will try to unseat Scott Brooks as he seeks re-election to the three-year position.

In other races, Scott Cunningham will not be seeking re-election as selectman and Ernest Day, Jr. will be running for that three-year seat. A. Elizabeth Priebe is running for Town Clerk, Pamela Clemons-Keith for treasurer; Maynard Thomson and Anne Cunningham for the two planning board seats; and Wendell Packard, Jr. for library trustee. There are no candidates for the trustee of trust fund and cemetery trustee positions.

On the Freedom school ballot, there are no contested races as Donald Johnson seeks election as Moderator; Holly Brooks as school treasurer; Gail Bizer, Michael Douglas, and Lisa Lee to the three school board positions; and Michael Gaudette as auditor. There are no candidates for the school clerk or school treasurer positions.


There is one contested race in Effingham as three people have filed for selectmen. Incumbent Susan Slack will be seeking re-election to the three-year selectman seat and will be challenged by former selectman Tim Eldridge and by Ron Witham.

Marilynn Maughan is seeking re-election as Town Clerk/Tax Collector. Michael Pilkovsky is running for town Moderator; David Manley for trustee of trust funds; Paul Bartoswicz and Ron Witham for Budget Committee; Jack Williams and Cheryle Feirick for library trustee; Joanna Bull for planning board; and James Pittman for zoning board. There are no candidates for one planning and one zoning board vacancy.
