Eagle boys dominate the field in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH — Another week and another dominating performance from the Kennett Nordic ski team boys.

The Eagles bested runner-up Hanover by 25 points on Tuesday, Jan. 8, in a freestyle 5K race at Plymouth Regional High School.

Torin LaLiberte once again led the way for the Eagles and the entire field, as he came away with first place in a time of 14:15.

The remainder of Kennett's scorers all finished in the top 10, allowing them to outpace Hanover for the win.

PJ Benson was second for the Eagles, as he crossed in a time of 15:39 for fifth place overall, with Donovan Spaulding close on his heels in sixth place in a time of 15:40.

Malcolm Badger rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with an eighth place finish in a time of 15:56.

Liam Martin provided some quality insurance for the Eagles, as he placed 10th overall in a time of 16:23 but didn't wasn't needed to count in the team score.

Jackson Ross-Parent also had a strong race, placing 14th overall in 16:53, while Kyle Alber cracked the top 20 with a 20th place finish in 17:19. Ian Lubkin was 23rd in 17:45, with Mike Knorpp in 29th in 18:20. Tim Avery finished 31st in 18:36 and Robert Schrader clocked in at 18:41 for 33rd place. Tristan Andreani was 37th in 19:03, with Philip Mathieu in 39th in 19:14. Frank Thompson finished 46th in 19:31 and Todd Desmarais was 53rd in 19:55. Domenic Lentini finished 65th in a time of 21:00, with Peter Mayer in 77th in 23:01 and Silas Hill in 83rd in 25:12.

With three-time defending Division II champion Hannah Benson still skiing in Utah, the Kennett girls had just four athletes competing and came away with an eighth place finish on the day. Hanover bested Lebanon and Kingswood to take the victory for the afternoon.

Gillian Wilcox led the Eagles with a 21st place finish in a time of 21:10, while Keara Wagner was second for Kennett in a time of 22:17, which placed her in 30th place overall.

Mae Van Rossum was the third Eagle across the line, as she finished in 33rd place in a time of 23:35 and deGrasse Schrader rounded out the flock of Eagles with a 45th place finish in a time of 25:21.

"Plymouth provided a really snowy, challenging course for freestyle technique," coach Steve Vosburgh said. "It was great fun for the racers.

"The Kennett skiers continue to improve and are looking ahead to Tuesday (after deadline) at Abenaki where they will switch back to classic technique," the Eagle coach added.

The Eagle kids will be back out on the trail again on Wednesday, Jan. 23, when they head to Waterville Valley for a meet hosted by Derryfield. The team will be on its home course again on Jan. 26, when the New Hampshire Series race takes place at Whitaker Woods in North Conway.
