Truck stolen in Ossipee quickly recovered in Wakefield

WAKEFIELD — Thomas Sweeney, 24, of Middleton was arrested last Thursday, Oct. 25 and is being held on $10,000 cash bail, charged with stealing a truck and trying to flee from police.

According to Wakefield Police, at approximately 9:45 a.m. Oct. 25, Ossipee Police Department put out a report that a white Dodge pickup truck with an attached trailer containing six log splitters had been stolen from McDonald's parking lot in West Ossipee. The truck belongs to Brownfield Equipment of Eaton.

A short time later, Wakefield Police spotted the truck and trailer traveling southbound on Route 16 in Wakefield and attempted to pull it over. After a short pursuit, the vehicle stopped and the driver, Sweeney, was arrested. There was no damage to the vehicle or its contents.

Sweeney is charged with two felony counts of receiving stolen property and two misdemeanor counts of disobeying a police officer. As of press time, he was being held at Carroll County Jail. Carroll County Sheriff's Department also assisted with the incident.
